ProBars!

Posted on

A big thank you goes out to Adam from ProBar for giving me the pleasure of reviewing the “ultimate marriage of foods” and textures in their Fruition Bars in a medley of:  oats, fruit, chia seeds, and cashews!  With just 160 calories each, providing 4g of fiber and 2g of fat in each bar, these unprocessed 1.7oz. bars are nutritional powerhouses!  The organic oats and pure fruit chunks create an insane chewy texture with a crunch addition from the chia seeds!  Because the carbohydrates in this bar are complex, it just one of these guys will give you total sustained energy and the fiber from the cashews will hold you over for hours!

For those of you who are uneducated in the seeds department, chia seeds are as nutritionally dense as they are tiny!

Look how little they are!

They are also the highest known whole-food source of Omega-3 acids, which promote cardiovascular and mental health! They are a complete source of protein and provide all the essential amino acids!

Fruition bars are also sweetened with brown rice syrup, which ranks very low on the glycemic index charts.  That means, it won’t cause your blood sugar to spike and there will be NO energy “crash”.

As if you haven’t heard me brag enough about these bars, here are some more stats to add to the list.  They are 100% vegan, trans-fat free, and contain no artificial preservatives!

They can really satisfy those of you with a sweet tooth, too!  The Peach was almost TOO sweet for my taste actually.  Almost, being the key word ;)   Good thing they come in other flavors too!  There’s something for everyone:  Peach, Blueberry, Cran-Raspberry, and Strawberry

My personal favorite was a toss up between the Cran-Raspberry & the Blueberry.   Both of them hit the nail on the head with the flavor factors.

You can order these bars online, over the phone (1-866-972-6879), or find a store that carries them near you!

Simply Nic’s!

If you have a love of baked goods and enjoy wholesome, natural ingredients in your sweets, you’ve got to try Simply Nic’s creations.  Things like fresh lavendar, rosemary, honey, and ginger are used in her artisanal shortbreads.  The result?  A pure taste that is outta this world.

What I love most about this company is the fact that it is family owned and operated.  She bakes because she has a passion and a love for it!  Creating masterpiece recipes with the help of her husband, the CTO (Chief Tasting Officer), she has put together four melt-in-your mouth varieties.

First, we’ve got my favorite:

Pumpkin Spice!!

The moist, sweet dough blends cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, all spice, and cloves together for an unbeatable, pumpkin pie tasting shortbread that I went nuts for.  I’m not typically a shortbread fan, because I think they are always too dry for my taste, but these had a buttery softness about them that literally caused me to “MMMMM” aloud :)

The three other varieties:

Cardamom Candied Ginger

Ingredients: Unbleached unbromated wheat flour, sweet cream butter, sugar, candied ginger (ginger, cane sugar, citric acid and sulfur dioxide) honey, fresh ground cardamom, Kosher salt.

This was my second favorite!  The chunks of chewy, sweet candied ginger were all-stars!  They really caught my tastebuds’ attention!  I savored these while they were in my mouth.

Lavendar

Ingredients: Unbleached unbromated wheat flour, sweet cream butter, sugar, organic lavender,* honey, Kosher salt.

The lavendar was alright too!  I’m not a fan of lavendar in foods (I prefer it as a flavor in teas), but it was subtle enough that it just added to the sweetness factor, which is totally okay in my book!

Rosemary

Ingredients: Unbleached unbromated wheat flour, sweat cream butter, sugar, rosemary,* honey, Kosher salt.

I like my treats to be sweet, so this savory combination wasn’t for me.  It didn’t taste bad, but I would’ve much rather downed an extra pumpkin spice as opposed to the rosemary ;)

I’m loving the fact that each of the ingredients lists are so short and completely identifiable!

You can find Simply Nic’s products on the Regional’s Best website, here, for ordering! Thanks for the opportunity to taste your amazing shortbreads, Nicole!  You are quite talented :)

The Incredible Edible…

Mornin’ Bloggers!  It’s already Thursday!  I guess time flies when you’re having fun keeping busy!  Last night when I got home from work, I grabbed a Vita again for a quick 100 calorie energy boost, and sat my butt on the stationary bike for another 35 miles.

Deep Chocolate Vitatop

After the workout, I grabbed a quick shower and did my best to look presentable for the little sister’s first basketball game!  Before leaving the house, I whipped up a veggie scramble using egg beaters & steamfresh veggies out of the bag along with a slice of FF swiss cheese.  To accompany the scramble, I  heated a high fiber low carb tortilla in the microwave topping it with a Sonoma Jacks Light Pepperjack Cheese wedge + splenda&cinnamon.  Mmmm mouthwatering.

In the mix was broccoli, tomato, mushroom, onion, & lima beans.
The sweetness of the Splenda & cinnamon really makes the cheese melt in your mouth…

I got some great action shots with my little Rebel and will be sure to share them with you in a future post.  The little sister is so athletic for her age.  I’m excited to watch her athletic abilities develop as she gets older! Her team played really well & won the first game of the season!  I also got to catch up with an old friend that I saw at the game, whose sister played on the opposing team.  She’s living in Philly now, so, coming from our small town, I can’t imagine how different things must be there!  She’s actually substitute teaching in the suburbs there and is such a sweet girl.  It was really nice to see her again!

After the game, I headed home for some White Peppermint Mocha Decaf Coffee, which I concocted myself with the help of some Torani SF Syrup (LOVE THIS STUFF!! mental note: need more).  I often wonder how it’s possible for something so flavorful to have 0 calories?  I mean really?  It’s magical :) I did some Facebooking, packed lunch & breakfast for today and hit the sack.

Breakfast- berry cottage cheese, all ready for fiber one topping in the AM!

Lunch- broccoli slaw, laughing cow, & lima beans.
