Many thanks to Mic from Navitas Naturals for sending me three of their superfood products to try out! I got to try the Coconut Oil, Goji Berries, & Chia Seeds! They also sell an array of other superfoods on the websites such as Stevia, Cacao, Hemp, Flax, Pomegranate, and Maca among others.

The first thing I used, are the Chia Seeds.  They are great for stirring into smoothies and oats to create a thick gel like texture!  They’ve got a mildy nutty, slightly sweet flavor that is barely detectable in many foods.  I’ve also found chia seeds to be a perfect thickening agent for pudding or adding a crunch factor in breads!

“Chia” the Mayan word for strength, was utilized by ancient Aztecs, Incans, and Mayans as a staple food.  Known for its stacked nutritionals, the chia seed is very dense nutritionally packing tons of fiber, vitamins & minerals (namely calcium & iron), healthy omega oils, easily digestible protein, and antioxidants.  They’ve actually got eight times more omega-3s than salmon, gram for gram!

Very similar to flax seed in texture, shape, and color, these tiny seeds have shown to improve health conditions such as hypoglycemia, high cholesterol, celiac disease, and diabetes.

Another Superfood that I was privileged to receive, Coconut Oil has terrific health benefits as well!  Coconut Oil is actually the remains of the large coconut seed after the fiber has been extracted.  Offered in “virgin” form, Navitas Naturals’ supply of coconut oil is pure, light, and buttery, giving us a cholesterol-free source of healthy plant-based saturated fats.  Benefits of coconut oil are to include long-lasting energy, a lean physique, increased metabolic rates, and anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal activity.  Even cooler?  You don’t HAVE to eat it.  It’s great for your skin & hair as well!

Not only does it have an amazing aroma, but coconut oil also tastes fantastic too.  It’s the healthiest oil out there, replacing butter and olive oil for spreading on your toast, enhancing your favorite stir-fry sauces, or melting together with chocolate for homemade chocolate bars! (Evan’s recipe ROCKS)

Last but not least, we’ve got Goji Berries.  What girl wouldn’t be attracted to this superfood with a nickname like “red diamond”?  After all, they are a girls’ best friend! 🙂

Cherished and used medicinally by the Chinese monks, these little rubies make a great addition to your fave trail mix, cookie batter, bread dough, or cereal!  Here, they are vine-ripened, harvested in the summer months, and dehydrated at low temperatures for maximum nutrient preservation. Use them JUST the way you would any other dried fruit and reap the benefits of the insane amounts of antioxidants you’ll get from them.  They’re also packing over 20 vitamins and minerals, including A, C, & iron,  proteins, and essential amino acids.

Goji berries are subtly sweet and a touch tart with a chewy, soft texture that make great snacking material! They almost reminded me of dried cranberries.  You can even “re-hydrate” these berries by soaking them for an hour in water and then add them to your favorite fruit salad!

Make sure you check out the Navitas Naturals website for ordering some awesome superfoods that provide optimal vitality!  If you’re from the Harrisburg area, you can find Navitas Naturals products in the Nature’s Market section of  Wegman’s too! 🙂  Thanks again, Mic!
