Sahale Snacks

To be found at any Starbucks across the country, Sahale Snacks has created a total treat for your snacky self.  Thanks to their publicists, I got the opportunity to try three of the 15 products that they make.  They’ve got Nut Blends, Glazed Nuts, Biscotti Crisps, and Seasoned Nuts.  Everyone knows that the benefit of eating the healthy fats provided in nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans, hazelnuts) is irreplaceable, but who knew the blandness of plain nuts could be transformed into such a delectable treat!?  

Soledad.

First up, is my favorite, the Soledad Nut Blend.  A member of the Nut Blend family of Sahale Snacks, this medley of almonds is accompanied by dried apples, flax seeds, balsamic vinegar, dates, and cayenne. It’s sweetness and crunchy texture had me from hello. 

 

 After checking out the nutritional information, I was even more smitten.  In each 1/4 C. serving you’ve got 130 calories, 9g of fat (.5g saturated), 4g protein, and 3g of fiber! 

 

 

Barbeque Almonds.

This kickin’ blend of Barbeque Almonds from the Seasoned Nuts family, has got a southwest style kick with a hint of smokey-sweetness added.  The tangy buttermilk ranch flavor really sets off the dry-rub spice blend of barbeque, chili pepper, onion, and molasses quite nicely!  Slow roasted to perfection, a 1/4C. serving of this snack will give you 140 calories, 11g of fat (1g saturated), 5g protein, and 3g fiber

 

My second favorite snack sampled, were the Cashews with Pomegranate & Vanilla Glazed Nuts.  Holy cow.  This was definitely a dessert-like experience.  The naturally infused pomegranate flavor really sets of the sweetness factor in these whole cashews.  A hint of vanilla bean puts it over the edge delicious.  

 The 150 calories, 10g of fat (1.5g saturated), and 4g of protein are totally worth the calorie buck!  These flavors are perfect together.

I love that this company uses WHOLE ingredients in their most natural form.  Customized with unique flavors, they’re also preservative-free!  They’re convenient for traveling, backpacking, trail runs, or anything that you need a quick energy boost in the most healthy, natural way!

Make sure to hit up the nearest Starbucks to try these out for yourself! 🙂

Thank God For Beautiful Weather.

Here’s to new starts and the celebration of Spring!  With that, I give you the Verse of the Day:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”- 1 John 1:9

This verse truly amazes me.  I can’t believe what a gracious God we serve.  No matter how many times I screw up, he is forgiving if I come to Him with a remorseful heart.  We can be “pure as snow” with just one confession to Him of our sins, because of His sacrifice on the cross.

Last night was totally EPIC.  When I got home from work, I fueled up with some carbs (a sweet potato & a Flat Out Light wrap with Sonoma Jack’s & Splenda) right before heading outside into the gorgeous sunshine that the Lord provided us with yesterday, for a 5 mile run.

I brought my camera so that I could bring you all with me on the journey.   I wanted to try out the “running photography”, Yes Man style 😉

Incase you can’t tell, I live in quite the rural area, to say the least.

But it makes for some stunning photographs, no? Check out how GREEN the grass is!

The easiest part of the run is down this huge hill!

 This one is probably my FAVORITE picture, because I can see my shadow in the cement wall of the bridge! I was showing my Mom these photos and she said I looked like a dragon. Haha.

The hardest part of the run.

This sucker was long, slow and gradual.  I was so glad to get to the top!  Not to mention, it’s toward the very end of the 5 miles, so it kicks my butt everytime!

Okay, so I lied.  THIS is my favorite picture 🙂  And with that, I concluded my run.  When I reached my driveway, I moved my car so I could play a little basketball.  It was boring by myself, so I went inside to do some ab work before my sister and Mom got home from softball practice.  My Dad had ordered us Chinese.

I got my usual, and when the rest of the family got home, we sat down to eat dinner together.

After dinner, I went outside with my little sister and played some basketball!  Taking advantage of the fact that it was STILL light out at 7PM 🙂  I whooped her butt in “one bounce“.

We came back inside, I showered and relaxed the rest of the night.  I packed my lunch and then made us dessert

For lunch today, I packed a big tub of veggies (cucumber, carrots, & yellow pepper slices), some deli turkey that I abs. love, and a Light Flat Out with Sonoma Jacks to eat at my desk.

The star of lunch?

I made Morgy a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake milkshake, and myself a Mint Chocolate Chip protein shake with some Optimum Nutrition protein powder!  I can’t wait to review the other flavors Tim sent me too!

Vermont County Store

Many thanks to Lauren from The Vermont County Store for sending me a few goodies to sample and review for you lucky readers!

The store began in 1945 by the Orton Family, and has expanded greatly based on family principals, providing buyers with practical, yet hard to find, one-of-a-kind items.  They carry apparel, food & candy, apothecary, and toys.  Naturally, this is a nutritional blog, so the items I got to review were food!

Lauren sent me some Carribean Conch Chowder, Carrot Ginger Soup, Squash with Vidalia Onions, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and some Vermont Raw Honey for the review!

My favorite product was definitely the Squash with Vidalia Onions.  It came came, canned, and contained a medley of yellow summer squash packed with sweet vidalia onions.  I practically ate these straight from the can, they were that good.  The flavor is out of this world.  Microwaved, the taste is really enhanced with the warmth!

The stats were really good too! I definitely ate the entire can as a veggie addition to my meal, for only about 115 calories.  They’re even fairly low in sodium for a canned food!

Carribean Conch Chowder.

The second tastiest product that I tried, was the Carribean Conch Chowder.  This stuff is unbelievable.  Made with REAL Tortuga Rum, it blends together a tomato-based broth, conch meat, onions, spices, and potatoes for a combination that you won’t soon forget.  I loved the hint of sweet red bell peppers that I could taste in this soup as well!

In one 1/2 C. serving, you’ll get just 120 calories, 9g of protein, 2g of fiber and 2.5g of fat ( 0.5g saturated). Pretty good stats if you ask me!

 

Carrot Ginger Soup.

For some reason, I wasn’t really a fan of this Carrot Ginger Soup.  It’s got all the right, winning ingredients (ginger, carrots, leeks)…in fact it’s actually created by an award-winning chef!  I think the problem was, I absolutely love carrots.  Steamed, raw, roasted, whatever.  They’re sweet and I like that factor alot.  This soup kind of took away from their sweetness?  I thought for sure the ginger would enhance it, but it left me a bit disappointed. 

The nutritional facts are fantastic!  You can have the entire can for just 100 calories!  Not to mention, 80% of your DV Vitamin C!  But the nutritionals and the smoothy, creamy texture were the only two positive things I had to say about this one.  I disliked the tangy taste.

Manhattan Clam Chowder.

Manhattan Clam Chowder…Mmhmmmm goood.  I was a little bit reluctant to try this stuff, because I’ve known clam chowders to have a creamy, thick, white base, which doesn’t appeal to me at all.  This stuff was light and flavorful with a nice blend of fresh veggies like vine-ripened tomatoes, celery, carrots, onions, and bell peppers in a tomatoey light broth with chunks of yummy sea clams!  It doesn’t even contain artificial colors or preservatives!

 At just 100 calories per 1/2C . serving, you’ll get 8g of filling protein and 15% of your DV Vitamins A&C! YUM.  It makes for a quick, comforting addition to your meal with restaurant quality!

Raw Honey.

Last but not least, we’ve got the Raw Honey.  This stuff is naturally rich in enzymes, aiding in digestion, as well as vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids that will keep your body healthy and boosting your immunity!  Packed with Vitamin B, iron, and zinc, it’s also a natural anti-inflammatory & anti-oxidant!  Who knew that honey lost a bunch of nutrients when heated?! I sure didn’t!
