Pretzel Crisp Additions!

Lately, I cannot get enough salt!  I don’t know what’s up with me, because I’m infamous for having an insatiable sweet tooth, but recently, the saltier, the better!  One snack that has been a saving grace for me, has been Pretzel Crisps!  Which, you can find a $1 off coupon for here.

A big thanks to the company & Jessica for sending me some of their newest flavors to try! Along with the originals, there are three newborns in the family (:  Each of these, like the others, has about 110 calories per serving and range from 1-2g of fat.

Jalapeño Jack

These guys are the perfect accompanyment for salsa, black bean dip, & guacamole.  It’s got a bit of heat added to the crunch with Spicy jalapeño combined with smooth jack cheese flavor sprinkled right on top of each crisp!  Any spicy food lovers out there will adore this flavor.  It reminded me of Mexican food!  In fact, they would be delicious crumbled over a “mexican themed” salad instead of croutons…I can see it now…shredded lettuce, warm seasoned black beans, chopped onion, pico de gallo, pretzel crisps, and topped off with plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream!  Mmm. 

Ingredients: Wheat Flour, Seasoning (Salt, Whey, Buttermilk [Cream], Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Monterey Jack Cheese Powder [Cultured Pasteurized Milk, Salt, Enzyme], Jalapeño Powder, Spices, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Citric Acid, Parsley, Lactic Acid, Disodium Inosinate & Guanylate, and less than 2% Silicon Dioxide Added to prevent Caking), Soybean Oil, Sugar, Salt, Malt Syrup.

Buffalo Wing, ladies (and gentleman?) was my personal favorite.

UGH.  So yummy.  I can’t tell you the last time I ate hot wings, or that I’m really a huge fan, but I can tell you, that these will knock your socks off.  They’re not burn-your-mouth-off hot.  They’ve got a kick, though, and taste amazing with Laughing Cow Cheese Light Blue Cheese wedges!  Try it!  Another winner as a topper for this flavor, was plain greek yogurt mixed with a Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning packet…hellooooo, creamy (HEALTHY) Ranch dip.

Annnnd, we’ve got baby #3 in the Pretzle Crisp household, Chipotle Cheddar.

It’s hard to put my finger on exactly what these reminded me of…I want to say, the SPICY version of cheetos?  The best part is, none of these pretzels really NEED a pairing.  They’re delicious all on their own, but it’s fun to mix & match pretzels and toppings.  I made little sandwiches with turkey lunch meat using this version…It was like the cheese slice was built right into the bun! 😉

Pretzel Crisps!

Who knew snack foods could be so delicious and healthy all at the same time?  I don’t know about you, but I love me some crunchy goodies to munch on whether I’m between meals at the office, on a road trip, or fueling up for a trip to the gym.  Munching is more fun with a little bit of crunch, but who can afford to waste empty calories on sub-par, potato chips loaded with transfats and fried in oil?  Not this girl, that’s for sure!

No, I would MUCH rather delight in some of these lip-smacking Pretzel Crisps!  They come in TEN different varieties!  Four of which I got to try:  Supreme, Cinnamon Toast, Classic, and Tuscan Three Cheese.

Why do I love these so much?  Check it.

  • Baked, NOT fried!
  • 0g Cholesterol!
  • 0g Trans Fats!
  • 0g Saturated fats!
  • All-natural!
  • Baked thin!
  • Whole wheat!

Knowing my addiction to sweets, I’ll bet you can guess which ones were my favorite! 🙂  These Cinnamon Toast preztels are lightly dusted with cinnamon and sugar, bringing to some of my favorites as a kid:  Auntie Anne’s cinnamon sugar soft pretzels, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, and homemade french toast.  This snack brought made allll those childhood memories come flooding back.  For just 110 calories and 1.5g fat in each serving, I’d say I made out!  Thank God the nutritionals were pretty good, because I could not keep my hand out of the bag! 

My next favorite, Supreme, tasted EXACTLY like an “everything” bagel!  HOLY yum.  I contemplated naming this my number one for awhile, but my sweet tooth took over my brain.  With a crafted blend containing onion, garlic, poppy, caraway, and sesame seeds, I’m not sure how you COULDN’T love this crisp.  I enjoyed them by the handful, crushed and sprinkled on my salads/soup (in place of croutons), and with fat free cream cheese or Laughing Cow!

You cheese lovers out there will LOVE the Tuscan Three Cheese.  I know, Tina would adore these.  They’ve got the best three cheeses in the book in my opinion:  Asiago, Romano, and Parmesan!  Forget cheese & crackers!  Cheese on pretzels is the way to go!  I was worried that these would be overly salty for my taste, but they weren’t!  The mild cheeses were completely savory & sumptuous. 

And then, there’s the Classic.  The crisp that started it all 🙂  These really allow you to get creative.  Great for dipping in hummus, crumbling into your favorite yogurt, or enjoying with a little bit of sugar free jam & peanut butter spread ontop.  Totally versatile and conventional.  I thought that some of the pairings on the website were pretty great ideas, too!

The Hands That Hold The World Are Holding Your Heart…

The Verse of the Day today is from a song by Phil Wickham instead of the Bible.  I just heard it on my way to work, and I felt like God was letting me know that SOMEONE needed to see that this morning.  Don’t you love when that happens?  It’s like God is speaking right into your ear 🙂  Andddd it is pretty amazing to think about the fact that the GOD of the UNIVERSE cares about your every fear, worry, and pain.

1/2 cantaloupe stuffed with 1 strawberry Chobani mixed & set overnight with 1 tsp. chia seeds and 1/3 cup old fashioned oats.

This was a delicious, fresh, summery start to my day.  The strawberry Chobani was a bit muted by the taste of the cantaloupe, which I did NOT like, but other than that, no complaints 😉

Lunch was a packed mish mosh of veggies & beans, salsa & cheese.

Roasted carrots, onions, peppers, green beans, and mushrooms with black beans, salsa, and a scant dollop of fat free sour cream.  Frozen grapes and a light string cheese on the side.

I ate at my desk, saving the frozen grapes for a snack between work & my pit stop at Target.  I had a sand volleyball game to get to at 7:15PM on City Island, but was meeting up with Poppa FF & some family friends at one of my fave sandwich shops, Simply Turkey at 5:45PM!

My sister has a softball tournament in Ocean City, MD this weekend, so my Dad & I are leaving Friday to head down.  We’re hoping to get some beach time in!  I picked up some easy-to-pack goodies for snacks

  • Chocolate Muscle Milk Light

  • 0 Calorie Peach Tea Mix

  • Light Select Harvest Soup

  • No Sugar Added Fruit Cups (peaches, pears, & oranges)

     

    while we’re down there (healthy ball park foods are few and far between!) and also found some cute clothes and sports bras. 


    I think I’m a shopaholic.

    After Target, it was time to meet up with the gang for dinner.


    I ordered the “Boss Salad” (you pick anything you want to go on it!) I chose all baby spinach, chickpeas, broccoli, carrots, green & red peppers, tomato, turkey breast, and mandarin oranges

    with fat free tomato basil dressing on the side.  Also accompanied by a slice of multi-grain bread.  T’was delicious. 

    My match at the island was next on the agenda!  Our team played well and we had fun, but we only won 1 out of 3 games in our match.  It was a nice night though, and afterward, we left for our friend, Todd’s slow pitch softball game!  I was just REALLY thankful to spend the night with such awesome people.  It’s not very often that Poppa FF and I get to hang out!  We hit Home Depot on the way, so Pops could get some supplies to fix our mailbox & it rained at Toddy’s game!  It was all worth it though because he hit a TRIPLE! 🙂

    Afterward, we stopped for ICE CREAM at 3B’s on the way home!  I ordered a small no sugar added, non-fat vanilla bean in a dish, but when I saw the size (a good 1 1/2 cups worth!), I asked to downgrade to a kiddie size, which was more than enough 🙂

    When we got home, FINALLY, a shower never felt better.  I was so beat, but still had a lot of packing and prep to do for the next day: CLASS which means packed lunch, snacks, workout clothes, shower stuff and dinner part 1!  I snacked on a handful of Cinnamon Toast pretzel crisps which taste JUST like french toast, and got to bed around 1AM.

    Annnd…it was ALL worth it 🙂

    1.  Do you find that you’d rather sacrifice prep work for sleep and just deal with the consequences?  Or would you rather stick it out and sleep better knowing you’re all ready to go?  I sleep much better knowing I’m prepared. 

    2.  What’s your favorite jam these days?  I’m diggin’ Phil Wickham!

    3. Is it hard for you to go into a store and not buy clothing?  Where’s your favorite place to shop?  YES!  I love to shop.  Especially at JcPenney, Kohl’s, and JCrew.

Breakfast was eaten before the commute to work at about 7:30AM.

1/3 C. old-fashioned oats cooked in 1/3 C. low-fat milk, 2/3 C. water, 1 tbsp. SF strawberry Torani syrup, and cinnamon.  Topped with 3 crushed Cinnamon Toast pretzel crisps, 1/2 tbsp. SF raspberry Polaner jelly and 1 tsp.  calorie free Walden Farms chocolate dip.  Oats were eaten alongside 1 maple flavored Morningstar Farm soy sausage patty.

 I’ve been downing iced coffees at work like it’s nobody’s business.

Campfire S’mores Caftea with SF vanilla Torani is like having breakfast dessert at my desk.  Nothing says summer like a good campfire s’more 😉

Lately, I’ve been packing my lunches & parts of my dinner because Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday I’ve got class from 6-8PM.  I go straight from work to the gym on campus to get a nice workout in before class, shower using the facilities, recompose myself, and eat the lunchbox goods in the car before class.  I’m all about time efficiency.

Lunch was a TACO SALAD at about 12:15PM.

1/2 C. Fantastic Foods Vegetarian Taco Filling atop broccoli slaw with a dollop of each salsa & fat-free sour cream. A La Tortilla Factory whole wheat wrap on the side for whole grains.

This taco salad was delicious.  I actually scooped up some of the salad and made a burrito with my wrap!  Best idea I had all day 😉

Between work & the gym, I had a Nature’s Path Pumpkin N’ Spice granola bar.

At the gym, I hogged the Cross Ramp for a good 40 minutes – the limit for cardio equipment is supposed to be 30 minutes, because there are only 2 treadmills, 3 Cross Ramps, 2 bikes, and 1 stair master, but no one was waiting, so I figured an extra 10 minutes wasn’t a biggie, right?  Average HR 155; calories burned: 480.  I declare “Never Back Down” the most motivational movie to watch while doing cardio.  Seriously, just check out the soundtrack.

After cardio, I hit the mat for two sets of 1 min.+ planks and 2 sets of 30 “in-and-outs”.  Then I used the hanging oblique machine for2 sets of 10 to each side.  I hate feeling so rushed during my workouts, but the time constraint is important if I want to make it to class ontime, UNsmelly 🙂

I ate this spread in my car before class for dinner (I KNOW, I know…protein repeat!):

Cucumbers and carrots sprinkled with Garlic Gold Sea Salt nuggets, 1 bag of steamfresh veggies (broccoli, edamame, water chesnuts, and carrots) topped with Vegetarian Taco Filling topped with a dollop of each salsa & ff sour cream.  For protein, I packed a 2 egg white puff topped with melted Finlandia swiss cheese.

Class has got me feeling on top of the world.  It’s so amazing how much more you appreciate learning when you haven’t been in a classroom for awhile.  Who would’ve ever thought they would miss SCHOOL so much? As I posted yesterday, I did pretty well on my first exam & hw!  My average in the class right now is a 95.

I quickly drove home, changed clothes, and went to my cousin’s house where girls’ night was being hosted, to watch the Bachelorette.  Frank is gone, incase you missed it.  He’s still in love with his ex.  He did things in a very respectable way, however, and I can’t bash him at all.

I had a plate of fruit while watching the show with banana slices, apple slices, watermelon, and strawberries, but my camera was at home, so here’s a Kath inspired photo. Ha.

When I got home, Momma FF had made a pit stop at the store upon my request and picked up these goodies for me! 🙂 I was lacking dairy for the day, so I had a cup of Soy Milk & handful of Cinnamon Toast pretzel crisps before bed.  Thanks MOMMA!
